Glossary

Speaking the same language

Quick definitions for the AakarX vocabulary.

Billing milestone
A stage of the project at which you invoice the client, such as booking advance, design sign-off, material delivery or handover. Usually a percentage of the contract value.
BOQ
Bill of quantities: the line-by-line list of work with unit, quantity and rate. In AakarX, an estimate is a BOQ, with your own cost per line kept internal.
Cash on project
Money the client has paid on a project minus everything paid out on it. When it is negative, the studio is funding the project from other money.
Cost head
A bucket that spend is tagged to, such as civil, carpentry or electrical. Project budgets are set per cost head, so overruns show up where they happen.
CGST, SGST and IGST
GST on an invoice is split into central and state GST when you and the client are in the same state, and charged as integrated GST when you are in different states.
Input tax credit
GST you paid on vendor bills that you can set off against GST you charge clients, provided the vendor has filed their return.
Opening balance
What a party owed you, or you owed them, on the day you started using AakarX. It lets you start with current balances without entering old history.
RA bill
Running account bill: a contractor bills for work done so far, and you pay against it after deductions such as TDS, advance recovery and retention.
Retention
A share of each contractor bill, often 5 to 10%, held back until the defect liability period ends.
SAC code
The services code printed on a GST invoice. Interior works contracts commonly use 995421.
TDS under 194C
Tax deducted when you pay a contractor: 1% for individuals and HUFs, 2% for others, once a single payment crosses ₹30,000 or the year’s total crosses ₹1,00,000.

FAQ

Common questions

If your answer isn't here, email hello@aakarx.app.

Are the resources free?
Yes. The templates, checklists, and calculators on this page are free to download for anyone — you do not need an AakarX account.
Can I edit the templates for my studio?
Absolutely. The XLSX files are unprotected. Change the rates, weights, or labels to match your studio. The PDFs are designed to be printed and used as physical site documents.
How often are the templates updated?
We refresh the rate cards every quarter based on what we see across studios using AakarX. The structure of the templates is stable; the numbers change.
Where do I report a mistake?
Email hello@aakarx.app with the file name and the page or sheet. We fix mistakes within 48 hours and re-publish.
Can I contribute a resource?
Yes — we accept contributions from studios. If you have a checklist or template that has worked for you, email us and we will credit you on the resource page.
